Studies In Australian History – On Holiday

27 September, 2013

While not at all related to Australian History, the last week or so has seen the arrival of a pile of resources for next year. Here’s a sneak peek at some:

And just a few more…

The first is mostly a collection of books for art. It also includes a book for me (which I have already started) about truth, beauty, education and mathematics.

The second is a photo of most of our resources from the Institute for Excellence in Writing, which comprises most of our English curriculum for 2014. It also marks a shift in our educational philosophy, towards a more classical education bent. I will endeavour to write about this further in the not-too-distant future.

Although we are on school holidays, we snuck in an excursion to the State Library and the Museum of Sydney, as well as stumbling across some other statues and monuments.

Lachlan Macquarie.

20130927-141640.jpg We accidentally discovered this gem – the Deparment of Lands building on Bridge St – this is just one facade and 12 of the 23 statues adorning the building.

The week, however has been punctuated by drama – first my mum breaking her foot and then Ariadne, our youngest, having surgery after her finger was squashed in a door. Hopefully the second week of the holidays will be drama-free!
