Studies In Australian History – Week Seven

31 August, 2013

Over the weekend we took a walk down to a local reserve that was named after a British marine officer who came over on the First Fleet. A bit of learning snuck into our family outing ;-).

This week we have used some activities found on the State Library of NSW website (www.sl.nsw.gov.au), including a map reading/interpreting activity and watching a short animation of the journey from England to Australia.

We’ve also read more of The Journal of Watkin Stench and watched two episodes of My Place that are set in 1788. Since our next “stop” on our tour of Australian History is the Rum Rebellion of 1808, we have another episode to sneak in somewhere soon.

And then there’s those times when you buy something well advance of when you need it, hold on to it for ages… But you know it will come in handy. Many years ago I spotted some games in the op shop. One was called The First Fleeters (the other was The Rum Rebellion).

Yes, the board is upside down in this photo. I seem to have a knack for doing that this week.
