Recreating Mercury

26 August, 2011

We recently recreated Mercury in our kitchen and backyard.

First we experimented and explored how craters are made.

Mercury is quite dusty, you know.

While parts of Mercury have a lot of craters…

… other parts are quite flat still.

Not all asteroids are spherical.

We dropped asteroids from different heights, too.

Then we used what we had learnt about craters to make salt dough models of Mercury.
