The Second Annual Poetry Afternoon Tea

21 August, 2011

Recently we held The Second Annual Poetry Afternoon Tea in our home. It’s an event we created in order to share favourite poems with other people and to give our children, and other people’s children, a safe place to practice speaking before an audience.

There is no pressure at our Poetry Afternoon Tea. No one is forced to read or recite, and it doesn’t matter if you have your poem memorised or not. Sometimes the adults join in and sometimes they don’t. (On that note, the answer to my poem-riddle was… A fish).

This year had some familiar faces as well as some new ones. There was poetry, yummy (healthy) food and time for playing. We’re hoping to keep it up in coming years and I’m hoping that more of our children will be brave and read poetry next year.
