Belated Book Week

2 September, 2010

Sarah of PeaPillyBean hosted a Book Week parade for a small group of homeschooled children in her back yard. We rustled up what costumes we could.

Zoe dressed up as Angelina Ballerina from the books by Katherine Holabird.

Reuben dressed up as Diego from the book Meet Diego.

Rhiannon decided that she didn’t want to dress up as Dora.  She wanted to be a school student from her Dora DVD.  So this is Rhiannon NOT dressed up as Dora.

Josiah dressed up as The Muddle-Headed Wombat from the book by Ruth Park.

I got conned into dressing up also and came as Dame Wash-A-Lot from Enid Blyton’s Enchanted Wood series.

Most of the children did a little parade to show their costumes and tell us who they were and from which book. Rhiannon took part in this, but my other children declined.

Sarah planned some activities around two of this year’s award winning books – Bear and Chook By The Sea and Clancy and Millie and the Very Fine House.

The children did a “chook” collage with Sarah’s hand drawn pictures of the character “Chook” and crepe paper, with texta accents.

Later they drew and painted pictures on cardboard inspired by the art in Clancy and Millie and the Very Fine House.

There was also shells, sand and water to play with to remind us of the beach and a pile of boxes to build houses with.

All the children seemed to have a great time!
