Hospitals are no fun

30 August, 2010

After spending all day yesterday in the emergency ward of the local public hospital I can say for sure that hospitals are not fun.

We spent three hours waiting for a bed, despite coming by ambulance. We spent the next five hours mostly waiting, but in a bed. Josiah was poked and prodded, had needles and canulas inserted and pulled out. All to be told that it doesn’t really matter anyway and he can just go home. Eleven hours later.

We met all sorts of interesting characters in hospital. I learned more about human nature and the horrible things other people do to their fellow humans. I also learned about the hard-working health professionals. I’m sure some awful ones exist but all the doctors, nurses and ancillary staff we came across were pleasant, kind and patient despite being incredibly busy.

We may make a complaint about our long stay but it will be about the shortage of beds and how over worked the staff were. Let’s give our wonderful health professionals the work place they deserve.

    Glad Josiah is OK.

Nursing is something I don’t miss!
